You Deserve Healing AND Success: How to honor your healing journey on the way to success

Erika Sardinha

If you ever felt frustrated or angry at your trauma because you think it's holding you back, you're not alone. Being a survivor of trauma or abuse means carrying a backpack that sometimes becomes so heavy it may stop you from walking and pursuing your beautiful dreams, whether you're fully aware of it or not.

And if you're like me and many other trauma survivors, you convinced yourself you need to work even harder and put in more hours to see results, regardless of the weight you're carrying around your shoulders because of trauma.

It's a tricky situation for a survivor: we have big dreams on one side and a heavy backpack of limiting beliefs, traumatic memories, and survival mechanisms on the other. These often pull us in opposite directions, making it hard to move forward.

So, should we keep pushing forward with the weight of trauma holding us back, or should we pause to lighten the load and tend to our healing?

I see most of you cringing at the thought of leaving your dreams on hold, and I get you.

But what if there's another option?

How about we drop the hustle and working hard mentality and adopt a more gentle approach that holds space for our healing journey? Doesn't that sound more aligned to you?

I know I let out a sigh of relief once I allowed myself to try a gentler path.

Today, I'm sharing with you the three powerful secrets to what I call the 'Gentle Way:' a process to heal and succeed so you can go after the life you're here to create while honoring yourself, your needs, and your journey.

#1 Self-regulation first

If I could only share one thing with you today, that would be it. I see so many survivors unknowingly disregarding self-regulation, and it pains me because of how crucial and life-saving it is.

Imagine going after your goals, feeling centered and energized. Your mind is clear, and you find it easier to make decisions. You also start noticing your sleep gets better, and your anxiety symptoms subside.

Creativity is flowing, and what used to startle you before doesn't bother you anymore. If something happens, you know how to process your emotions, and you can calm down quicker than before.

These are just a few examples of what happens when you learn to self-regulate. Isn't this a beautiful starting point for your journey to success?

I know! That's why self-regulation practices and techniques must be an absolute priority - not just for your well-being but to ensure you healthily achieve your wildest dreams.

Some examples of self-regulation practices include meditation, mindfulness exercises, yoga, journaling, somatic practices, and breathwork. Start with a few, and watch yourself become balanced and unstoppable!

#2 A vision that makes your heart sing

I've known for a while that happiness is the best fuel there is. Well, after a good night's sleep, of course.

There's nothing like waking up with a purpose and going after something that lights you up. The joy, the motivation, the little wins that keep propelling you forward...

Oh, the days you want to give up, but you simply can't because you have a VISION! That's what we're looking for.

You're not here to chase societal expectations or what someone else thinks you should accomplish in life. You're here to align with the truth of who you are and create a vision from that place (and break it down into bitesize heart-centered goals.)

The beautiful thing about having a vision that makes your heart sing is that it not only makes the path gentler but also helps you honor yourself, your wishes, and your needs for true fulfillment.

#3 Healthy people and places

It would be unfair for me to sit down here and put everything on you. You may have extraordinary inner power, but it is challenging to thrive in toxic environments. I mean, you're only human.

Put the most resilient plant in the wrong place without sunlight, and watch what happens.

I did. I wanted to decorate my poorly lit living room with a palm tree, and guess what happened? Poor thing lost so many leaves, became yellow, and her were roots damaged. I kept giving her water, talking to her... but nothing.

I had to face the truth: my palm tree didn't belong in the living room.

When I moved it to the balcony, new green, lush leaves started growing! I think she's happy now.

I realized my palm tree couldn’t thrive in the wrong conditions, and neither can we. Surrounding yourself with the right people and environments is just as essential for your growth and well-being. It may be time to reevaluate the people you surround yourself with and where you've been spending your time to give yourself the support you are worthy of.

Remember, self-regulation comes first to help you pursue your goals without carrying the weight of that heavy backpack. And those goals we’re talking about? Make them big, make them yours, and ensure they align with who you truly are and what you genuinely want from life. Finally, choose the sunny balcony over the shadows of a poorly lit living room.

So, give yourself the environment you need to truly thrive!

Love,

Erika.
