Why Personal Developers Love Yoga

Ever wondered why so many yogis are into Personal Growth, and vice versa? Me too! Keep reading to know more.

If it wasn’t for Yoga, I would probably never have started my personal growth journey. Yoga helped me create the space and clarity that I needed to jump into this internal adventure. Along with the meditation practice, Yoga had me longing for more. I was now aware that I could feel different, so I had to learn how could I take it from the mat (or the meditation pillow) to the “real life” and that led me to my personal development journey.

By then I didn't know that both Yoga and Personal Growth were complementary and that they would mirror each other. Along the way, I’ve noticed that a lot of yogis take their self-development path very seriously and personal developers from around the world can’t help but fall in love with the Yoga practice. And I totally get them!

So, here are 5 reasons why personal developers love yoga:

  1. YOGA stands for union. Union of the body, mind and soul. While not all personal developers love yoga, a lot of us fell in love with this practice because it allows you to work on your mind and body at the same time. And the spiritual aspect of the practice just makes everything better. For the ones who are not spiritual, they can see it as a way of working on the real self, our essence. One thing that a personal developer should know is that there is no well being unless we address the mind and body connection.

  2. Yoga is all about self-growth. There is not a true yogi in this world that is not looking to self-develop. The philosophy of Yoga encourages you to dig deeper into your soul and to grow, to become the best version of yourself. Guess what we personal developers are looking for? Yap, you guessed it: To be the best possible version of ourselves … and beyond!

  3. Acceptance! Yoga does not care about the level you are at. It does not matter which style, teacher or where in the world you are practicing, you will always be forced to accept where you are and as I said, yoga contemplates room for growth as well but hey, you have got to be happy where you are first!

  4. Non-violence towards ourselves and others, contentment, daily routines… you name it. The personal development movement has so much in common with the Yoga philosophy that you would be astonished by the similarities.

  5. “Study thy self, discover the divine", Patanjali's Yoga Sutra says, encouraging you to study yourself, which brings that self-awareness that all personal developers are looking for to bring us closer to alignment… or should I say UNION?

There you have it! I hope you feel inspired to practice yoga, meditate or to embark on a personal development journey if you are not already! I have to say that it does not matter the path you choose. What matters is that it is respecting your true self and it is aligned with your values. I share this path because it is the journey I know, the one that suits me better, the one that just speaks to my soul.

What kind of journey is calling you right now?

Namaste,

Erika
